Project size: 7,507 sq ft

Located in the heart of downtown Tempe, Casona de Pappas is the city’s first LEED Platinum-certified home. Built on a redeveloped lot with 90% of materials repurposed, the home offers sustainable, walkable urban living with close access to public transportation.

Constructed from 12” Omni Block with triple foam inserts (R-42 rating), the tightly sealed structure features high-efficiency HVAC with Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) and ENERGY STAR-rated windows. Passive solar design further minimizes energy use, and rooftop solar panels with a battery backup meet most energy needs.

This fully automated, three-story home allows for remote control of temperature, lighting, and security. The basement includes an aquaponics system for growing fresh produce, while a 6,000-gallon cistern captures rainwater for smart irrigation, prioritizing rainwater and gray water over city supply
